There is no difference between Photoshop functions on either system. If you know one already stick with that.
If you are totally new to computing, it depends what else you have in mind.
Goodness gracious! I can’t believe I received a reply already. Thank you.
I am somewhat familiar with a PC to check email and such. However, I’ve just noticed more people using Macs for design work, so I was just curious as to why most people seem to choose the Mac over the Windows PC. Is there some clear advantage / function / capability?
All things being equal, I think I would feel much more comfortable using a Windows computer over a Mac, but since I’m just starting and it’s all new to me….I’m just wondering if I should start with Mac or a PC.
Thank you again dear.
Stick with what you know and comftable with. The Mac people will tell you Mac is better and PC people will tell you to PC is better.
Stick with PC 🙂
In the early 90’s I started on a PC and learned Photoshop on the PC. If I would started on a mac, my present Photoshop would be a Mac version.
Personal preference, both are great.

It is true that you see more Macs in design work because in earlier times Macs were indeed better and people have stuck with what they know and love.
I have instructed on both systems and can assure you there is no longer any notable advantage for either.
Each camp has its devoted followers and "Platform Wars" still flare up occasionally, although even the die-hard addicts are beginning to admit that it doesn’t really matter.
If you have used Windows computers you won’t have to learn the different interface and philosophy of the Mac and the Windows computers themselves are cheaper. They are no longer inferior in quality if you buy an established name.
I hope that unpartisan bit of advice helps.
I must admit to being in this dilemma
The info about G5 quads is really quite drooly
But there again there is Windows Vista and whatever beauty that may bring with it.
So, the choices for me seem to be:
– dual or quad AMD (when the BIOS can support quad)
– tonnes of RAM
or
– invest in one of these new MAC thingies once they have matured in the market place for a few months
I must admit being empathetic to OS X and understand that Pather is also on the go.
Isn’t it great having so much fantastic choice?
Then you come down to earth and say, "What do I want to do with all this horsepower? Can I afford it? Can I justify it for the income it will generate?
Do I just want to get into a pissing contest?
Isn’t it time I got real?"
Thank you all very much for your helpful suggestions and information about which type of computer to use. Now that I have decided to go ahead and buy a PC, I’m sure I will have more questions once I start trying to use Photoshop.
Thank you for your kindness.

I’m glad you made your decision Martha.
Sorry about the language in Post #7 I got carried away!
There is a lot of useful stuff in the help files of Photoshop but you may be advised to get a book to help getting to grips with what can be a bit daunting. You could do a forum search on "Photoshop books" to see what has been said here on the subject.
