I have upgraded from 7.0 to CS and now to CS2. Everything is working fine with one minor glitch. When searching my hard drive for a photo that was originally processed in CS and I want to double click on the photo to bring it up it automatically brings up the photo in CS, not CS2. How do I tell my computer to always bring every photo on my hard drive up in CS2.

Right-click an image in Windows Explorer. Choose "Open With" from the menu, the select CS2 from the list in the "Open With" dialogue. Finally, before Clicking OK, check the "Always open with…" checkbox.

Philip,

If you have Bridge (I have the suite so I’m not sure it Bridge comes with teh stand-alone Photoshop) you can open the preferences dialog and select file type associations here. This is really helpful if you have the suite and want to see what apps are opening what file types at a glance.

I haven’t checked but I don’t think the changes in Bridge are reflected outside Adobe CS applications.

I just checked: they are not. This is good if you don’t want to fire up Photoshop every time to view a JPEG file. Mine open from Explorer in the Windows viewer, in spite of the settings in Bridge.

Change the file type association from CS to CS2. Help & Support discusses how to do this at great length.

My problem is slightly different.
I can make CS2 my default program when I double click on a jpeg. What I would like is to show CS2 as the default imaging editing program when I right click. This was OK in CS but has disappeared in CS2.
I do have a work around by going down to the work around command "open with" and then selecting CS2.
I am on XP home .

Tim, in Windows Explorer, click on Tools > Folder Options > File Types. Select JPG. Click Advanced. You get a menu of options that will appear when you right click on a JPG file. One of them may be Edit or Edit with Photoshop; if not, add it. The Application used should be two strings, each in double quotes: the first is the full path to Photoshop CS2, and the second is "%1". In my case, these are "D:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Photoshop.exe" "%1". Now check Use DDE, type Photoshop CS2 in the Application box, and System in the Topic box.

Or, in Windows Explorer, right click on the file, choose "open with" and browse to the Photoshop executable you want to use. Check the box that says "always use this program to open this type of file". That’ll change the association for Windows Exlorer (but not for Bridge, it has its own set of associations).
