Hi there I’m sure this question has been asked before, but I cant find it. So please forgive me if this has been repeated time and time again.

I am using CS2 and have to say a bit of a newbee. But the trouble is this. I open a NEF file (camera raw) and make no changes to it at all. And open it again into CS then I say it as a PSD. Now I can work on it.
I reduce the size and then save as JPG. but when I view the JPG on the web it looks totally different, the colours are less punchy, and the image is flat looking. Saturation is less to.

Now when I change the view proof setting cymk to moniter or windows, then I get the same JPG look in CS2 as the saved as JPG.

So I’m a little confused about which

I have the warning signs come up about colour management do I colour manage or not. & if I do then how do I get the output images (jpgs) to look like they do on the screen?

Yes, asked and answered all the time – no worries though…

but when I view the JPG on the web it looks totally different, the colours are less punchy, and the image is flat looking. Saturation is less to.

That indicates that your monitor is not calibrated. You can use Adobe Gamma in the control panel to calibrate it.

As much as you may abhor learning about color management (I did), spending 15 minutes at Ian Lyons’ site will walk you through most all you need to know, in a no-nonsense fashion.

Thnks for that. Superb site and will be adding to my list of links in my own site. I thought my moniter was calibrated but NO it was not
I actually have now calibrated my monitor and you are quite write 15 calibration and the rest is history.
I also found out the I was viewing one set of ICC printing in another and saving in another. and not using the same throught.
I am using adobe1998 now. I gives good colour and contrast, is there another profile worth looking at. Im using a PC by the way.

Well thank for the help

Ken, make sure to convert from AdobeRGB to sRGB when you are saving for the web.
