This question is tangental to the purpose of this group, but I thought I would I have the best chance of getting an answer here. I’m about half way through Bruce Fraser et al.’s book ‘Color Management’ – everything you’d want to know on the subject by the way – and was following the procedures to profile my monitor with my ColorVision Spyder Pro. I’m not able to fully adjust the monitor with precal. I ended up with brightness of 52 and contrast of 100 to get the luminance in range. I can’t adjust the RGB values since the connection is DVI. ColorVision says not to use precal with LCD monitors, but to set brightness and contrast to factory defaults. I haven’t been able find out what they would be for my Samsung SyncMaster 191t+. Is where I got with precal good enough or should I try to find out what the manufacture’s defaults are?

Curt

P. S. I know there’s a way to reset the monitor to factory defaults by pushing a combination of buttons. I can’t find out how to do that either. Samsung documentation is lacking.

Curt,

I have two samsung monitors and I use Colorvision Spyder pro to calibrate and profile both. I had some initial difficulty and found that both Samsung and ColorVision have helpful tech support via telephone. I don’t have the phone numbers handy, but for Samsung I suggest trying the website: samsungusa.com. For Colorvision, the number’s in the documentation that comes with the Spyder. By the way, after working with the colorvision support guy we ended up manually changing the settings to solve the problem. I would never have figured out the solution without Colorvision’s help. Suggest you give them a try.
