I’m looking to replacing my old Epson 2450 Photo Scanner. I’m leaning towards the Epson 4990. If anyone has experience with this or similar Canon and Microtek models, I’d like to know the pros and cons.
Thanks
Bob

Is the 2450 broken ? That’s a pretty darn good scanner for reflective scans . Perhaps you need a scanner for transparencies only ?

😕

I’m using a Canon 9950F for the main reason that it will scan 30 35mm negs at a time. I don’t believe the Epson will do that many. I have just finished scanning about 100rolls of film for archiving purposes and it performed well. If you require top end control over colour settings etc you would need to invest in Lasersoft Silverfast scanning software.

http://www.photo-i.co.uk/Reviews/interactive/Scanners/Canon_ 9950F/page_1.htm did an in depth review of this scanner and the Epson 4990 worth a read before you invest in one.

Hope thats useful

Without looking up the specs for the 4990 because I’m too lazy, I was quite happy with the previous versions…

Also, if I was purchasing, the only requirement outside the standard operating specs would be the inclusion of Digital ICE firmware. I’ve scanned with and without it, and now consider it a requirement. It’s very, very good.

Thanks for the input guys. It seems everyone is loyal to the scanner they are using. I guess I wouldn’t go too far wrong with either of them.

Brent, the reason I’m getting rid of the 2450 is that it has gotten very slow and the glass has been scratched considerably. I did have good use with it. No complaints.
Thanks again \

Bob
