It worked when the Photoshop CS2 was first installed. Now I get two messages:"Error. The operation could not be completed" [OK] Then "ahc.exe – Application Error. The instruction at "ox00864a4d" referenced memory at "0x00f80b08". The memory could not be "written" Click OK to terminate the program.

I am running Windows XP Pro with the SP2 patch. I have reinstalled Photoshop. Microsoft support cannot help.

You need to contact Adobe directly.

Try deleting the Help preference file by holding down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT whilst starting ahc.exe

Also:

Assuming ahc.exe is located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center, delete the following folders

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Cache C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Database C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Preferences C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Search

The only folder under C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData you should have left is one called packages. Run ahc.exe
What should happen is that your help center database should get rebuilt (you will see progress messages as it process each help package) and everything should work.

Another new problem with Photoshop. When I go into Adobe Bridge and start to perform various operations the program just disappears and reverts to Photoshop. There are no error messages.

Have you got the latest Bridge update? (I have 1.0.2.109)

The program tells me I have 1.0.0.545. The Adobe Updater tells me there are no updates for Bridge. I can’t think the Adobe site will have more, but I will look.

Despite the Updater message, the Adobe website did have the 1.0.2.109 update for download. I have installed it, but I am still getting the same problem of the program just closing, for example, when I am just bringing up the help menu.

John,

The Updater in Bridge is broken and so the update is only avaiable from the Adobe website:

Sorry, some confusion on my part. The Adobe Help Center is working fine after your suggestions. But I have a new problem with Adobe Bridge. It keeps just closing down whenever I do anything within the program. With no error messages.

John,

There is a separate Bridge forum which can be found at:

http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.3bba3d54

The Bridge engineers are very active in that forum at the moment so there would be the best place to post your problems with Bridge

How do you open the help files the old way with an Internet browser (i.e. FireFox or Internet Exploder)?

I’m trying to do that right now because my boss wants a step by step presentation of how I do things with InDesign, including screenshots. I wanted to cut and paste a few things off of the help files into MS Word but Help center doesn’t allow me to do that. With Adobe Help Center’s browser I can copy the text but not the images. Any ideas?

Jason,

Once you have opened a page in the help centre, it will be cached in \CS2\Adobe Help Center\Adobbehelpdata\Cache\~Application\~version\html\page

(where ~Application and ~version are dependent upon the help section you access)

You can then open that page in any browser.
