Path Program Error

Hello all!

I’ve been getting a seemingly random error message when attempting to create a path from a selection. I will select the area I want, then try the "Make Work Path from Selection" tool in the Paths tool bar, and about 50% of the time I get an error stating "Could not complete your request from a program error". Sometimes if I just try again, it works, other times I add (or delete) a layer and I can get it to go through. Other times I have to completely restart Photoshop (CS). I initially thought it was a problem with the size and detail of my selection (some are simple, some definitely not), but that doesn’t seem to affect it.
Any ideas on what’s causing this?
Thanks!

Try resetting your preferences per the procedure in the faq.

I was hoping it wouldn’t come down to that — it’s such a pain to have to reset the preferences… But I did, and it seems to be working so far.
Thanks for your help!

To save the pain in future make a copy of the preference files once you have them the way you want them and put them in a separate folder somewhere. If things go wrong again you can just copy them back into their original place.

For CS2 they are at C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings
