I have PhotoShop CS on Windows 2000. I’ve upgraded to Camera Raw 2.4, and I can easily open .CRW files, but I still can’t open .CR2 files. I checked the HELP->ABOUT PLUGINS, and confirmed that the only Camera Raw installed is 2.4.

Is there something that I might have missed?

Thanks

Andy,

If the camera model that delivers the .CR2 files is issued after the ACR 2.4 plugin is won’t work. Which camera is it? Is it in the supported cameras list for ACR 2.4?

There is a workaround if it’s not supported though:
Download the latest (free) version of Adobe’s DNG converter. That converts your camera files to the open .DNG format that actually is supported by older versions of ACR that can read DNG’s.

Or upgrade to PS CS2, that can handle later versions of ACR than 2.4.

Good luck.

Rob,

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, the .CR2 file comes from a camera model that is supported by ACR 2.4: the Canon Digital Rebel (it’s actually a relatively old camera, as far as digital cameras go 🙂 ).

Your suggestion to use the DNG converter is a great idea. I’ll try that this evening.

Thanks!

Andy,

If it’s the 300D then there is no reason why it wouldn’t work in ACR 2.4. What happens as far as error messages etc?

Rob,

I can’t remember the exact text of the message, but it was something to the effect of "Can’t open file because it’s not a recognized format" (or something like that).

Rob,

The exact message is:

X Could not complete your request because it
is not the right kind (sic) of document.

BreezeBrowser also confirmed that the file is a EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT format.

When I check the HELP->ABOUT_PLUGIN->CAMERA_RAW command, I get:

Version 2.4
Adobe Camera Raw Plugin

Thanks for any ideas that you might have,

What I can think of.. is there an older ACR plugin in the way? and is the new plugin (2.4) in a folder where it’s recognised but not taking precedence over the old one? Was the new one manually copied over?

I’m still on CS with ACR 2.4 Can you post a CR2 camera file somewhere for us to download or mail me one? (I’m on DSL broadband).

We might get to exclude the camera file from beein errant.

Rob,

I know that the CR2 file is OK because 1). I can covert it to DNG, and then open it in ACR 4.2, and 2). my friend can open it in her ACR 4.2.

When I installed the ACR 4.2 plug-in, I put it in the same plug-in folder as the previous ACR, and I overwrote the previous Camera Raw plug-in file. But, that doesn’t mean that PS CS doesn’t have some sort of memory of the previous one, which is basically the same thing that you suggested.

Maybe I should remove ACR, confirm that it’s gone, then re-install it…

Thanks for your help,

Is the camera in the list of cameras supported by ACR 2.4?
