Great, I can’t do a spell check on Photoshop CS, I just purchashed Photoshop CS2 and now I read this is happening in the upgrade??

The problem here is I was able to use spell check, and then all of a sudden it stopped and each time I try and use spell check, the system freezes and I have to close the program before I have had the chance to do a save.

Does anyone know know what the problem is. I am PC on XP. Thanks.

Elizabeth,

the system freezes<<

Do you mean the whole system or just Photoshop? If you can still use CTRL+ALT+DEL to close Photoshop the system isn’t frozen, it’s just Photoshop. Please clarify.

No just photoshop freezes and it takes several minutes before I can get the system to close photoshop. I do use ctrl+alt+delete it is then only way to try and get out. but like I said it takes forever to close it. And I have lost all of my work. I shouldn’t have to keep doing this over and over, at one point it was working fine, now it isn’t? I took photoshop off my system because I started getting an error message once I started photoshop, now with the new install I have stopped getting that, but still have a problem with spell check 🙂

Thanks.

I hate to point this out, but anyone who really NEEDS the spelling checker in Photoshop is doing too much text in the wrong application.

While I agree that if the spelling checker is an included feature, it ought to work, Photoshop isn’t really meant to be an application for text-heavy projects.

well I thought this was a place to get answers, I guess I was wrong. If it isn’t supposed to be used (spell check) then why is it there? and I don’t use ‘text heavy copy’! What everyone has missed is that it did ‘work’ now it doesn’t. As for copy and paste, why would I want to increase my workload when spell check is right there in photoshop!

thanks for all of the help

An Adobe engineer gave some good advice in message 3. Did you try his suggestions? Then the forum host offered some help in message 10. That was about five hours before you gave up on us.

Yes, there is always going to be some joking and unuseful suggestions in a user to user forum. But you need to stick with us a bit more before giving up. (I’d help you, but like others, I never use the spelling checker.)

Don meant message 4 not 3.

Did you try the advice contained in it?

Elizabeth, please excuse the anal comments from Thee_DarkOverLord in post #12. His primary hang-out on these forums is in the Lounge where trivial discussion occurs. I suspect he often forgets that he wanders into this forum where meaningful assistance is expected.

Do not discount his second post though. It is ideal to use Microsoft Word for both its spell checking and grammar checking. While it is a good idea to use Word, I understand that this is still not the solution that you want.

The fact that the program still exhibits this problem even after re-installing indicates that your preferences may be corrupted. Have you reset these as previously suggested? Old preferences may remain even if the program is uninstalled and then reinstalled.
