I have intermittent freezing of the tool cursor, and the shortcut keys do not work either. (Windows XP/2.4 Athlon/2Gb RAM/Photoshop CS2) Sometimes a re-boot helps for a while, but the trouble eventually returns. Yes, I have downloaded the latest drivers for my Nvidia FX5200 video card. I have no video problems with any other applications. (Photoshop CS did not have this problem either. I suspect there is a software problem peculiar to CS2 operating under Windows, although of course I can’t prove that.)

I appreciate any other suggestions one might have for dealing with this problem.

Thank you,

Reuben L. Hann

I have a similar problem to this, ( Win xp, Athlon Winchester 64bit 3000 with 1gb memory, Radeon 9550 256mg ram, 160gig HD) I am finding a large amount of actions I take be it simply drawing, or even opening/saving a file causes the program to freeze for a few seconds, before it can actually take the action. I have looked on task manager to see what photoshop is taking up, and it tends to be around the 100 meg mark on memory and nearly all of the processor power (could have sworn PS was more a memory hungry beast rather than processor), its got to the point I can not even face using it to do any work, fortunatly I can work at an office where I freelance, although it is not unusual for me to work from home, this problem makes it nearly impossible. I had none of these troubles with CS1 only with CS2 do I find myself at my wits end. I have placed an order for an extra gig of memory, but I cannot see why PS is playing up so hideously.
I have installed a new driver for the graphics card, made the memory allocated to PS about 55% and also set up the scratch disk to a section of the HD that has 90 gig of space free. You would have thought with all this bending over backwards for the program it would be fine.. but no, is there any light that can be shed on this situation

Thanks

After some looking into this.. there seems to be more than meets the eye, also some other forum threads that have covered a lot of the ground already, cache levels seems to be one thing that got highlighted to turn down from 6 (the default) to something lower, I have gone with 2, there is still a lot of this "stuttering" but I think there has been a slight improvement. (and it also appears people with loads of memory are getting this.. I feel an update for PS is much needed)

thanks to all those that have come up with certain solutions to an ever present problem

I’m hitting this issue too and have the latest drivers. I just put PS on drive C: (same drive as the OS page file) and made drive D: the scratch disk. But this did not solve the problem.

I turned on "timing" in my Info palette to measure how long it takes to complete an action, such as, zoom. It took 10.9s to marquee-zoom. The document size is 36.0M/23.1M. I have my cache level set to 2.

Anyway, I am in total agreement: Adobe needs to release a patch to these "stutters" soon!

Thanks for your comments, guys. Stephen, I don’t think the extra memory will help. I already have 2Gb and it still fails. I tried cutting back on the cache level. So far today I have not had a failure, so we’ll see. I don’t use PS all day everyday like some folks, so it may take longer for me to see the problem return.

Jeremy, you’re right, that is not even close to an acceptable response time for such a simple action. I hope the Adobe folks admit there is a problem and issue some kind of patch/update to correct it. I just do not expect such issues from a professional-level product.

I have the same problem, the cursor wont change whenever i click on another tool. This happens every time I open up Photoshop, then I have to restart again to get it working again. it then again freezes in the middle of my work. It does get really annoying after a while. I have visited the knowledge base but there are too many possibilities? I spent so much money on this product and now I am let down deeply. Can someone please help me? I have 512mb of space, I downloaded the latest drivers etc. This problem does not even happen in the most memory using game :FS2004. and seeing PS CS2 loosing against that is horrendous!

Help some one please!

It is strange to see so much similar actions in a short amount of time. did you guys install new programs?
did photoshop suddently have issues, or did it work before? could you write down your setup?
what version of Photoshop is it? downloaded, CD, international english/localized one? are you using a program like windows blinds?

I’ve had this problem since Photoshop 7. Read my discussion about it <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?13@@.3bbba254/74>. But Adobe is still saying that it’s my computer. Yeah, mine and so many others who have completely different configurations. But we all have something in common. The mouse cursor messes up in PS7 and later.

its not so much that my tool cusor freezes … but when i go to ‘Image >Adjustments >Brightness/Contrast’ the tool changes to the eye droper.
This prob has just started recently. All other functions of PS7.0 work flawlessly. im running 3gig intel, 768mb mem, ATI all-in-wonder w/256mb, 120gig HD. I think i got enough horse power to run PhotoShop …
I hvnt loaded any additional progs .. tho i hve had some Win auto updates, and hvnt messed around with the PS settings I set so very long ago.
I hve removed and reinstalled PS7.0 twice, but prob didnt go away.

any thoughts would be appreaciated.
thnx….

Thomas, maybe have you changed the resolution or went from 2 monitors to 1. You may have to reset your preferences to have the palette bakck on screen. Reinstalling almost never fixes anything. Resetting preferences does. (See the FAQ of this forum for instructions)

I’m on Windows 2000 Pro, Pentium 4, 2.6 and 1.5 Gig Ram using CS2. Raedon 7000/ Raedon VE Problem is often after opening a image file, size does not seem to be a factor, after I select a tool, it takes some time to get it to work, and while it’s "frozen" I cannot select another tool ordo much else like close the file. Once I get past this problem the first time on the image, everything works normally. I monkeyed around changing % allocation of ram, changed scratch disks and so on, but still have the problem. It seems like this is a new problem the past few months, but maybe its always been there on CS2.
