Freezing a Pattern

I scanned a polish green marble slab and created marble pattern with it. I use this pattern on text. My problem is that every character takes on a different segment of the pattern (some are good and some are bad). If I delete the bad text, the pattern seems to shift onto the other, thereby changing the look again.

Is there any way to freeze the pattern on the text once I find a combination I like?

Thanks,
Todd

Hmmm… good question. What I would try is to make a pattern that is ridiculously large – say 1024 x 768 or larger. Then assuming the "origin" works for your text, you should be able to Snap To origin and it should always refer to the upper left hand corner of the pattern – I think. I’m thinking this through as I type, but it’s worth a shot.

You could try flipping the original and redoing the pattern and see if the flipped version matches better.
Or you could fill a layer with the pattern, and arrange the layers so the pattern is above the text. Then alt + click the line between the two layers in the layers pallette to fill the text with the pattern. Then you can move the pattern layer around until you get a good fit.

Hi
I was wondering if you help me with this question: I have to use a pattern to create clothing ( ie. floral, etc….
So if i scan a real pattern, open it in photoshop, then what do i do?

I want to be able to make a big surface with the same pattern that i scanned, and use it to integrate inside the cloth( like a shirt, a skirt, etc…) Also the scanned pattern is way to big, so it needs to be be reduced. How do i obtain a smaller version of the pattern, and at the same time make it so that it covers a big surface.

Thanks alot!
