I am using windows xp and Photoshop 7. I recently scanned my daughter school picture in and on the monitor it looked identical to the original. The problem that I am having is that she has on a white top with purple in it and the background behind her is purple, however when I go to print preview her top stays white and purple but the background turns to blue. When I print on my epson photo r320 it prints exactly the same as the print preview. My question would be why does the background purple change to blue but her top stays purple?

Print with Preview is not color managed, so if the profile of the image is not the same as that of your monitor it will look different in PwP than in the main application, which is color managed. The issue of color management raises several questions: Is your monitor profiled? What is your default working space profile? What is the profile in the image at issue? And when you print, what color management settings are you using?

Michael,
Thank You for responding, however I am basically a novice user and don’t do a lot with profiles. I just thought it was strange that the image that i openned in Photoshop was identical to the original but when I went to print it the purple changed to blue only in the background. I just need to accept what I get is what I get.

Anthony, you really should learn about color management if you want to use Photoshop effectively. The best place to learn is Ian Lyons’ site, <http://www.photo-darkroom.com> . He has some excellent tutorials on how to make Photoshop do what you want and avoid unpleasant surprises such as you encountered. It’s not nearly as complicated as it sounds.
