Okay, I have an idea…

Take a contact sheet that’s flattened, no layers. It has pictures and names underneath the pictures, it’s on a white background.

Find a way to automatically select only the pictures so that you can invert the selection, desaturate everything else, then run levels on it.

Oh, and for good measure, have it do that with a contact sheet that has several different sizes of images – one image on the sheet is 200 x 200, another is 350 x 200, another is 150 x 300, etc.

That oughta keep ya busy. <grin>

In fact, if he does, and it works, I will pay him. Personally, though I don’t think it can be done so that it can be automated…

Yawn:

Select colour range set to ‘0’ for white
(to get white background)
‘Expand’ selection 12 pixels
‘Contract’ selection 12 pixels
(to deselect the type and any small white areas of white in the photos) Select ‘inverse’
(to select pictures)
Select ‘invert’
Select ‘desaturate’
Select ‘auto levels'(if you want to get fancy you can load your own set of levels).

Yawn!

Do you think I was kidding when I said:

that combo doesn’t prevent portions of the images from being selected.

I tried it. <shrug>

I don’t understand the mask part. You’re saying to create a mask (alpha channel) from the first select -expand/contract combo, then re-do Select Color Range, expand by say, 2 pixels, and subtract this latter selection from the former?

This is pretty interesting; not there, but maybe close…

Uh, yeah. Select white, fuzziness 0. Expand 12, contract 12. Should result in everything BUT the images. The problem is, that parts of the images ARE selected – the white parts.

Tony read it again, the part about the masks. Hasty, hasty (actually you responded before I could add the part about the masks. That works.

Re: "doing something nice for your wife", I’m going away for the weekend (my mom got a new house, so I’ll be doing renos for her over the long weekend) so she can have the house to herself. How much nicer is that (rhet)?

She hates flowers (allergies), she doesn’t cook (fortunately I’ve been cooking for forty years now and love to cook). I always keep the place clean. Only her leaving or me leaving gives us more happiness than we already share. Ah-h-h-h-h-h, t’aint that sweet.

ID,

I appreciate the effort.

It must be something in my character that leads you to think that I’m NOT reading what you wrote. I’m working on a "presentation" style that confers a bit more confidence, but as with most things, it’s a work in progress.

With that in mind, while the technique you are proposing is quite interesting, it’s not working. But I’m grateful that you spent the time whilst waiting for your wife’s return.

Only her leaving or me leaving gives us more happiness than we already share

Then I guess it’s back to Bob’s suggestion of internet porn <grin>.

Tony:

What I further posited was creating two masks and deleting one from the other to solve that problem, let me think that one through. After the weekend of course.

IDEA: Run a droplet on the photos so instead of a pure white, there is a two percent grey instead.

Re: That leaves internet porn, I was hoping for suggestion that didn’t involve a computer.
