I created a new set under the actions and recorded several actions and saved them. I accidently reset the actions. I know the are saved somewhere but I cannot find them Any suggestions? I am using CS.

Search the HD for files with an ATN extension. Those are Action files.

I did a hard drive search for ATN and I got several but none I recognized as mine.

Well, if you saved them to the hard drive and didn’t delete them, they’re there. <shrug>

OK, perhaps I overlooked them. Perhaps a better questions would be how do I get them back on the list under actions? When I click the button and select load actions they are not there to load.

The action set entries that are displayed at the bottom of the Actions Palette menu correspond to .atn files that reside in your equivalent of:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 8.0\Presets\Photoshop Actions

If you can locate the .atn file created when you executed the Save actions… command and move this .atn file from wherever it is into the folder above, with the next PS startup it, too, will appear at the bottom of the Actions Palette menu.

If you are unable to locate the .atn file created when you executed the Save actions… command, then you will have to recreate your actions.

Does this help?

Danny,

If you can locate the .atn file created when you executed the Save actions… command and move this .atn file from wherever it is into the folder above

While that may not be a bad idea organizationally, it is not required. Just to be clear for the OP, the ATN files are loaded into the actions palette. It doesn’t matter if they are never present again, they will be in the actions palette (via actions palette.psp) until you remove them from the palette or in the event there’s a corruption of the actions palette.psp.

The point is Kyle, if you cannot find the correct action set, you’re out of luck. But if you did not delete it, you simply locate it, the from the actions palette click the flyout menu (triangle in the palette tab) and navigate to the location of the saved ATN.

Peace,
Tony

The purpose of my response

If you can locate the .atn file created when you executed the Save actions… command and move this .atn file from wherever it is into the folder above

was to address the OP’s specific question

Perhaps a better questions would be how do I get them back on the list under actions?

Given he’s apparently a rookie, my reply purposely omitted commentary on action organization philosophy / options / pros-cons, alternatives methods for loading .atn files and mention of the somewhat arcane hidden until one makes a Windows setting change Actions Palette.psp file. It was the "Why hit a fly with a sledgehammer?" approach.

Your additional points are most valid, as usual — esp. the fact that he’s SOL if the saved .atn cannot be located — and are valuable for one to know / understand. Thanks for fleshing things out.

Understood Danny, in regards to the question of "getting them back on the list". I am not trying to be argumentative or nit picky, just trying to help, as are you.

That specific question is what prompted my elaboration. It seems to suggest that if it were just in that list, then his problems would be solved. I just wanted to draw a distinction between organizational issues and the immediate issue.

Peace,
Tony

Thanks everyone for the response. I don’t think I hit the delete button but your mention of a separate drive reminded me that I have a total working backup on another drive. I had forgotten about that.

Thanks.
