XP Professional, Pentium 4, 2.60 GHz 2.60 GHz, 608 MB of Ram. PhotoShop7

At the start up of PS7 I get the splash screen, it’ loads up to "Brushes" then begins to initialize something (not enough time to actually read what it’s initializing) and promptly shuts itself down.

It also seems that all graphic files associations have been changed to Ulead Photo Explorer (each graphic shows as a Ulead icon, not an PS icon) yet when you try to open the graphic PS does start up to open the graphic. The file associations are correct althought the icons are not.

Any ideas?

The quickest, least destructive thing to do is to reinstall. None of your personalization is affected. Unlike most programs, a reinstall of PS is reasonably benign.

then begins to initialize something

Find out what it’s trying to initialize and that’ll be your clue if a reinstall doesn’t fix it.

Also try resetting the Preferences file as per the forum FAQs

This will affect some of your personalization but is quite easy to reconfigure.
