Script or Action to Add Sig to Photo

Hi …

My work is 100% with photos, and they are of different sizes and dimensions. I would like to add a small copywrite notice in the lower right corner of those that are posted on the web. There’s a script that almost does what I want

<http://www.oblius.com/?projects.psscripts>

except that it adds an unwanted border to the photos. Is there a way to modify this script so it will just add the sig, or is there a script or action somewhere that will do this. Looking through the web with Google, I’ve not found anything that will provide what’s needed. And while it would be nice to learn scripting, time and circumstance precludes doing it now, especially for just this one simple task.

Any suggestions?

Shel

Shel,

One technique that may work well is to simply record an action. You can then either run it image by image, or in batch. There are limitations, but I’ll get to that in a minute.

One thing you can do is to record an action that types your sig anywhere in the image, and then use the Align to Selection feature to align it properly.

Start recording

Type your text anywhere in the image and accept it. Then Select|All, Layer|Align Layer to Selection->Right Edges, Layer|Align Layer to Selection->Bottom. Deselect, and nudge up and left to keep it off the edges.

Then you’re done. You can add flattening or save as… steps, but you should get the point.

The caveat is Font Size. If your images vary in resolution (not dimensions) you can have either extremely large (low ppi) or extremely small (hi ppi) text.

A way around that, if you think it may be an issue, is to create a Custom Shape out of your signature. Then, by setting your rulers in percent prior to recording the action, you can use a similar technique as above, only it places your custom shape layer on the image and then aligns the shape layer. Keeping your ruler in Percent while recording eliminates the effect of resolution, as the signature will be places as a function of it’s percentage of the image, rather than absolute font size.

I hope that helps.

Peace,
Tony

OK – now that’s neat and one would understand why Photoshop does it so well.

Now, how about outside of Photoshop?
How about adding IPTC/EXIF on the trot in haste AND apply a copyright notice all within a couple of clicks?

Ans: PixVue
It’s free but maybe free of a non-commercial basis?

Here’s one I tried earlier.

Once the template is setup all it takes is: multiple select, right click, apply Rename

Or Photoshop. There are several scripts that do this with metadata without having to add yet another program.

Hi Y – it’s not really a program in the ordinary sense.

The options are accessed directly from Windows Explorer by a right click on single or multiple selections

Give it a try – maybe Photoshop could include a similar workflow in versions to come?

From what I see, it’s like Bridge. <shrug>

Thanks, Tony … I came across a couple of scripts that seem to work. Have to work with them a little more to be sure if they’ll work in all instances.

Hi Shel, I had this problem a while back and started a thread entitled ‘Accurate positioning of layer’ on 27/08/2005. A number of useful techniques were put forward, like using % for the rulers scale, but if you read right down to the end I posted what my solution was which is actually quite straightforward (in the end)

Hope thats of use

Best regards
