"Could not initialize Photoshop because of a problem using the Adove Color Engine"

I first reinstalled PS7 and I still got the same error. I then reset PS7’s preferences by pressing SHIFT+CTRL+ALT and I still got the same error. I then re-ran Adobe Gamma and still got the same error.

Any more help?

The only thing is, did you get a dialog asking about your preferences file? If you did not, then the Ctrl-Alt-Shift thing didn’t work.

I did get the dialog asking if I wanted to delete the preferences (or reset, or something to that effect). Thanks for your help though.

Chris, do you know anything about how I could go about troubleshooting that?

I uninstalled 3D Studio Max 5 and then tried Adobe and it worked. I then installed 3d Max and it didn’t work. So it definately has something to do with 3D Max being installed. I’m going to try to use an install log to see exactly what is being changed when I install 3D Studio Max 5. I’ll report back in a few.

The only thing that I can see that has been changed in Adobe Photoshop files is under "FILES CHANGED": "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Required". It disturbs me that it is doing something with Photoshop. I wish it would show me what it changed in "…Photoshop 7.0\Required".

The prefetch changes look nasty.
And NOTHING should have changed in Photoshop 7 REQUIRED.

You need to contact the 3DSMax folks and tell them that they’ve created a conflict. They need to do some testing on their side of thngs.
