I tried figuring it out and looking it up, but I need pointed in the correct direction.

I have a folder with 143 photos. All I want to do is to resize each image identically at at a different jpeg compression. Can I automate this with Batch? So far, I have a problem figuring it out.

Thanks,
Carl

Carl,
I need to do virtually the same as you except I need the same JPEG compression. My camera card holds 115 photos and I have to plough through them all changing the size to 8" x 6".

Would you mind putting the actions in an ASCII text file so I can build on it.

Paul,

Exactly what you’re trying to accomplish is unclear. The 1st issue is: do you want to preserve the proportions or not? If so, here’s a walkthrough of sorts.

If you want to preserve the proportions, the easiest thing to do is to automate the use of Fit Image. Fit image will resize your files so that the longest side fits within your specifications. Read about it in the help file.

So, you open a dummy image and start recording an action: File|Automate|Fit Image. Then while still recording, use File|Save As… to save the image to your desired format. Carry the save all the way through to completion, then stop recording.

In the actions palette, find the Save As step and toggle the dialog to OFF (the little square next to the action name).

You are now ready to batch.

File|Automate|Batch:

Action to run: Create Thumbs
Source: Folder
Choose: pick the source

Destination: Folder
Choose: pick the destination
Override Save As Information: CHECKED

Optionally choose a naming convention and hit go. Each image will open, one by one from the source folder, the action will perform the prescribed steps, with a Save As step as the final event, then the image will close, rinse and repeat.
