I want to know what type of binders, mounting etc could be used as a portfolio used for interviews? Any Links?

What kind of artwork to include? I know this may vary depending on the type of position applied for.

Part of our class are mounting A4 artwork on A3 Black card (raven) but I thought a thicker type of card like to ones to mount photos on.

Also I have just about finished a one year Graphic design course(cert4) but have had a few years at home on p/shop, ill ect. Wanted to know if it’s worth doing the last year (year 2 Diploma)

Thanks

I’d go with a portfolio case, and unbound mounted boards. This way you can hand the work to the client individually, talking a bit about each as you do so.

If you use the binder, you lose control. You might have a great point to make about a piece that might sell you the job, but if the customer suddenly flips to the next page, you lose the chance.

As for completing the diploma, there is no reason to if you win a good job. But don’t quit school and start looking for work, hoping you will get something. Your diploma will help you get interviews (your portfolio will get you the job).

You will learn more in your first month on the job than you will in the second year of the course. But you will have trouble getting a job without the diploma.

I agree with Don. Go leather too, you can tell the difference. A leather, zippered 8.5×11 portfolio case is only around $50-$60 and will last forever.

Awesome advice Don, especially the part about the second year of college.

As Don said, you will likely learn more in the first month on a job if you are working with other professionals. Life is just like that, you learn more working on real world projects than any amount of college courses. However, almost everyone wants to know you can make it through the easy stuff first (college).

Good luck in your endeavors!
