I’m not sure which is the best forum to ask this question. My main objective is to place a PDF into a PM document, but there has to be a conversion programme so I’ve chosen this forum. I have PM 7.0, PSCS2, and CorelDraw 10, and I’ve tried all the ways I know to open a PDF in PS that will produce the same quality as when it is opened in Acrobat. These PDFs won’t even open in CD as they are apparently corrupted. The original files were produced in a mapping programme called MapInfo Professional and then converted to PDFs using a PDF Writer printer.

I’ve tried increasing the dpi, changing the bit depth from 8 to 16 (can’t remember what bit depth is), and I’ve tried opening a new file of the same dimensions and then placing the PDF into it, but the quality just isn’t as good. I’ve seen that there are some problems people are having opening PDFs in the new version of PS that they didn’t have in the old, but my concern is with the quality. I want the same quality as when the PDFs are opened in Acrobat. Does anyone know the answer to this?

In acrobat File/Save as, then save as a tiff.

Hey, that’s a good idea, I didn’t think of that one. BUT …. I’ve tried it, and when I try to place it into PM I get the message "Cannot place this file. Internal error: can’t decompress data". So in the Settings window when changing to a tiff in Acrobat I changed the Monochrome and Grey / Scale Compression to None and then it worked, and the print of this image from PM is now as good as the print out from Acrobat. Thanks DarkOverLord.

ok when you do save as and the window pops up, there is a settings button, click that and turn all compression to none, its probably set to Zip and LZW. Now Photoshop wont have to decompress 🙂
