Hello, All!

I was watching one of Russell Brown’s tutorial movies and he used a Filter|Render|Lighting Effect filter. But his dialog for this filter had a long list of styles. My CS2 has no styles for Lighting effects. Do I need to install these? Any idea where to find them?

Thanks,
Colonel Blip.

They should be there. Look in your Filters folder. Is there a Lighting Styles folder in it?

Yes there is a Lighting Styles folder. I’ve set my system up (for sync to my laptop) with a link from the default plugins folder on my desktop to a different drive/folder. The filters are all in that folder as is the Styles folder. The filters work fine; the styles however do not.

Currently, in the program files folder for CS2, within the Plug-Ins (L:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins) I have the shortcut to my normal filters folder (F:\Photoshop\Plugins\Filters). As mentioned that works fine for the filters. After your note, I copied
F:\Photoshop\Plugins\Filters folder into L:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins folder to see if that would solve the problem. Still no styles.

Where are your styles? Maybe I’ve still got it in the wrong place.

Thanks,

CB,

When you select Filter > Render>Lighting effects you should be presented with a LE dialogue box, at the top of which is a style drop down list which should be on default on opening. Click on the RHS down arrow to access the others.

Mike,

There is a drop down list; however it is empty (no default) and drop down presents what would normally be a list of items but no items are listed. This is the problem.

Thanks,

If you haven’t inadvertently deleted them, you could have a corrupt prefs file. Have you tried to delete it?
Hold down control+alt+shift when starting PS.

Not deleted. Instead, see following.

For those who may need to know in the future, I googled groups for this problem and found answers. Need to make sure the folder is indexed. From one of the message groups:

"It has been reported that the problem with Lighting Effects presets are resolved when re-enabling indexing for the Lighting Styles folder.

How to check your disk indexing: In Explorer, find the folder in which Photoshop is installed, then find the subfolder Plugins>Filters>Lighting Styles. Right-click this folder, and choose Properties. Under the General tab, click Advanced, then check the box that says ‘Index this folder for faster search’ (or similar).

Reboot and check your Lighting Presets in Photoshop." <<

Hope this is helpful to others at some point.

Thanks,

Colonel Blip.
