I figured out the extraction problem I had. When I opened a picture it opens horizontal and I then rotated it. So when I extracted it and tried to then use the history tool it didn’t recogize it because the history had it horizontal and the copy I made was vertical. NOW….my question…. why is CS2 not opening the image the way I have it rotated in the original file. In PS7 it didn’t do that!?! I looked in Pref. and some other places but can’t figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Stacy,

This is irrelevant, the history brush undoes or restores states, it shouldn’t matter if you rotated the image prior to the extraction. Have you tried to do this on a copy layer?
If your image is a portrait format and is from say, a camera which doesn’t support orientation correction (automatically flips it the right way up for you when opening in PS) , it will open as you say, in landscape format. If you then rotate the image to the correct orientation and save it, it should then reopen the right way up.

Stacy,

Blow me down! Ignore first paragraph in first post, total crap! It worked for me because the image I was working on when I saw your post was square, so when it was rotated the canvas didn’t change.
