Is there a scratch disc on the server?
There is a known bug in PS7 that shows itself by not recognising large drives (could be in PS6?) can’t remember the size though. Is the default printer on the network?
Search for all *.tmp and *.dmp files and delete them from your computer.

Dave,

You have a peer to peer network connected via a wireless access point/router/modem, right?
Which PC is PS 6 installed on?
Which PC is printer connected to? Same one that has PS6? How does the setup perform with other applications, differences in start-up time wireless on/off?
Is this a new problem or has it always been so?
It definitely sounds like PS6 is looking for something on the other PC when wirelessly connected, though why it "stops" looking for whatever when not connected is a mystery.
Clear tmp and dmp files off both PCs

not worried about it… my desktop is on a small home network/ ie… dsl modem/ 5 port hub thats it
printer is connected to desktop with PS6. installed.

problem since xp install .. but more noticeable now for some reason

PS 6 is the only software that looks at network to a point it will stop responding on me
have to end wtih task manager

XP install? Upgrade? If so from what? Did network exist before XP installation? All drivers XP flavour? Has PS 6 been re-installed since installing XP? Could be corruption in the prefs file, especially if PS6 was installed prior to XP; that would cause allsorts of un-repeatable problems. Even if re-installed after XP the original prefs file would remain intact. No harm in deleting it as a new one is created first time PS is run. To delete, start PS with the control, shift and alt key held down.

Dave,

I still think its something to do with a printer. You have one physically connected to the PC with PS6 installed, (not the laptop) but, is there an "image writer" type printer on the laptop? Have a look in the Printers and Faxes folder on your main PC to see how many printers you have installed. (Remove all but the one you have connected) In PS, when you hit Print, how many printer options are there? If more than one, where is/are the other/s? You could also try uninstalling the printer if you have the installation disc, restart the PC and with an empty Printer and Faxes folder, restart PS and see what happens.

Dave,

Sorry I couldn’t resolve this you have covered all the problems that can result in the condition you are experiencing.
BTW, do you keep any PS images on the laptop? If they are in a folder on the LT, there could be security issues involved with PC’s on a network accessing them and if PS is trying to do that…but deleteing the prefs file would remove any reference to such a folder anyway.
If the laptop needn’t be on the network for you to use PS, I would leave it off. It doesn’t solve your problem but at least you will be able to use PS.

Dave,

You could take this problem to the Adobe forum,
click on the link below,

http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/main.html

then choose your programme from the list on the left , in your case Photoshop & Adobe Photoshop (make sure you select the correct O/S) and register to join the forum.
There was a problem exactly like yours discussed within the last month and successfully resolved via the methods I suggested (printers) Obviously, this didn’t work in your case.
