Adobe Photoshop CS2 Version 9.0 on a Windows 2000 Computer. First issue:
While starting the program a box comes up saying "ObjectWindows Exception" with no text but a box to click that should say "OK" or "Cancel".
Second issue:
Once thats started all of the navigation tools work but when starting or opening a new file the choice boxes do not have text in them to tell you what they mean.
Third issue:
When trying to import with my scanner the program does work but whenever I take the cursor off of the previewed or scanned image the cursor turns into a black box. It still works but it makes using this ultility very difficult.

Your first problem could be the cause of the others. An ObjectWindows Exception is usually caused by a missing or corrupt dll ( Dynamic Link Library) file and as different applications and even OS’s use different ones, tracking down the bad one can be a nightmare. Is this a problem that has only started recently? Have you installed anything since the last time PS worked correctly? Do you have all the updates for Windows 2000? Is your AV prog up to date? Have you tried a clean (delete the preference file) reinstallation of Photoshop? There are utilities that will check your installed dll’s for any problems but I don’t know how they would work on missing dll’s. Do a Google for dll problems. Sorry not to be more helpful.

I didn’t know that help could be desperate, or have any other emotion.

Yes, YOU are desperate, but help cannot be desperate. Perhaps if you learned the language, you can ask for the help you so desperately need.

Monica,

I sympathise with your predicament but why is this problem yours? Are you responsible in some way for the problems? Did deliberately remove or corrupt a dll file? Would you know how to? I assume you do not have any tech support at your place of work?
To check the conditions of the installed dll’s have a look at the following link
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=dll+problems& btnG=Google+Search&meta= some will check for free but fix for a fee.

Maybe a long shot in this case, but have you tried deleting your preferences file? Always worth trying when funny things begin to happen for no reason. To delete, restart PS with the shift+control+alt keys held down and follow the prompts.

I, for one, didn’t realize the full range of assistance available in this forum!! Even grammar and linguistic assistance. I am sure monicatyd will appreciate that probably even more than help with her Photoshop difficulties! (Excuse the tongue-in-cheek please.)

To Mike:
I am technically the tech support for my workplace. It is my responsibility to fix any issues that are found at my place or work. I would not deliberately remove or corrupt the dll file since I would be the person to have to correct the situation. Today I am just going to try a full reinstall of photoshop to see if that fixes the issue but I did not want to have to resort to that if it was not needed. The OS works fine other than this issue with photoshop but it is interesting that the issue with the scanner only comes when trying to allow photoshop to open it otherwise it works fine on its own. I am currently trying to write a how to file on getting photoshop and the scanner to work in a more functional state for the users here.
To all:
How did my trying to get help at my workplace end up into a battle of how poor or incorrect my grammer and linguistic skills are? Secondly why are they being brought into this? For being a community of help with issues only a select few seem to care in helping fix issues or answering questions. I regret even asking for help now with how callous a few of you are being about this.

Monica,

I didn’t think you would or could deliberately create the problem you describe, I was asking as to why your boss seemed to think it was your problem and that there was the implication of hell to pay if you didn’t resolve it.
With regard to your scanner working on its own but not with PS, what flavour is it? (USB, SCSI etc.,) how old is it and are you using the latest drivers for it? Check the manufacturers website for any updates. Try uninstalling the scanner and reinstalling it (Which came first PS or the scanner?) I’d suggest that you uninstall PS before you reinstall it just in case the installation fails to overwrite any problem files.

As you have discovered this is not always a "community of help" and can be an intimidating and humiliating experience for some first time visitors, sadly this is the nature of newsgroups but I hope it doesn’t prevent you from posting in the future.

If you want to see what it could be like, (erudition, courtesy and even humour) go to the Adobe forum,
click on the link below,

http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/main.html

then choose your programme from the list on the left , in your case Photoshop & Adobe Photoshop (make sure you select the correct O/S) and register (free) to join the forum.

Monica,

If you are going for a reinstall I’d try deleting the preference files first (nothing to lose) and it is amazing the problems a dodgy file can cause. Not heard of it being responsible for your problem, but hey, there is always a first time.
To delete, start PS with the shift, alt and control keys held down. A new one is created after this, at startup.

ok so after a full uninstall and reinstall of all adobe cs2 products the issue still persists. shift alt control keys did bring up a screen of some sort but with no explination of what it would do and pressing the left or the right button did not solve the "Object Windows Exception" from still coming up. I am beging to dislike photoshop on this computer.
In regard to the scanner it does work on its own when the application is opened from its program file it is just when opened from photoshop that it does not work right.
well i am also trying the adobe support forums but it seems i would have to start over with my issue there since i cannot find any relevant information on my issue there either. well see what happenes. Monica

Monica,

Did you delete the preferences file before you reinstalled as explained in my last post? Uninstalling PS does NOT remove the preferences file and if this is screwed, it will affect the reinstallation.

Also, what about taking this to the Adobeforum?

I’m no expert here folks, but I think CS will work fine on XP. Not so sure about W2K. I’ve only used PS for 12 years though. Sounds like an issue with W2000
