Hello! I recently bought a Samsung SyncMaster 915N to replace my CRT. Ever since an image in Photoshop displays slightly different colors than when the image is viewed in a web browser or other program. I have the latest drivers for my monitor, and I can’t figure out what might be causing this. Any suggestions?

Photoshop is color managed and webbrowsers+viewer ignore ICC profiles, causing differences in color. If you design for the web, covert the colors to sRGB before saving.

Have you calibrated your monitor?
If not go to Control Panel>Adobe Gamma.

make sure your monitor is calibrated accurately. you can’t use adobe gamma on an lcd monitor. at worst, use the color calibration software that came with the monitor. at best, you’ll need to invest in color calibration hardware. also be aware that photoshop color manages according to how it’s configured. browsers and many other applications do not color manage. read up on color management.

Alright, so I know it’s not the gamma. That just seems to mess with my overall brightness and color. It does seem to be the color profiles though. I managed to save it once the way it is meant to be seen, but I didn’t record what I did! : D

I think I’ll just have to do as Waldo and neon suggested and read up on color profiles.

Thanks for your fast replies!

adobe says you can’t use adobe gamma to calibrate lcd monitors…that’s who.

PSCS Classroom in a book, page 7

"Using Adobe Gamma utilty with LCD’s

Although the Adobe Gamma utility will adjust some features of a liquid crystal display monitor (LCD), the utility is designed primarily for calibrating and profiling cathode ray tube monitors (CRT’s). If you use the Adobe Gamma utilty for your LCD, skip the contrast step, because many LCD’s lack a contrast control, For these, you can adjust the intensity of the backlight."

I agree, it’s not the sharpest tool in the box but in the absence of anything else it is better than nothing (and free).

like i said…at worst, use the color calibration software that came with the monitor. it’s called naturalcolor and it’s better on samsung lcd’s than adobe gamma. it’s free too.
