I have PS7, running on XP Home. I have about 90 black and white TIFs that I need to convert to JPG (actuallly, I’d like to keep the TIFs and make a duplicate set in JPG format.)

I can do it one by one, but I think it can be automated for all 90. Can anybody list the actual steps in the process? Much appreciated.

You need to create an Action, this is simply a record of the keystrokes/mouse clicks used
in the making of your image or file.
F9 starts the Action pallete, where you can give the action a name, start and stop recording the action etc.
Firstly, put all your TIFSs in their own folder.(easier to automate later) Then hit the record button on your actions palette and open your first image.
Go to File As and change the file type to JPG and then clsoe the file when saved.
Stop recording your action
Then, when you have created your action, go to File>Automate and choose Batch.
If you have created your action correctly, it should appear in the Action drop down box.
Click the Choose button and navigate to the TIF folder.
You can use the same folder for the Destination folder.
Click OK to start the conversion process.

Have a look at the following link
http://www.pixel2life.com/tutorials/Adobe_Photoshop/All/?ba= 4&a=7&c=1&f=15&c=1&d=1&ss=actions
They should be the same regardless of version.

Do I do this before or after F9?

Then hit the record button on your actions palette and open your first image.

Do you mean Save As? And will this let me keep my TIFFs, while creating a duplicate file of JPEGs?

But I can send them to a dedicated folder, right?

Mike:
I tried the above, and it basically worked. It recorded my actions and it made copies of my TIFs and put them in the file I designated.

However, while I manually converted my first file to a JPG, the automation sent the rest to the destination folder as TIFs. not JPGs.

Any idea what I might have done wrong?

B,

Does your action contain "open" and "save as"commands? If so tick the override action "open" commands in the Batch dialogue (source).
and tick the overide action "Save as" command in the Batch dialogue (destination.)
