Using PS8. When an image is open, clicking on File > File Info brings up several panels where one can enter IPTC metadata. When I try to enter information in the "Date Created" field of the "IPTC Image" dialog or in the same field of the "Origin" dialog I receive an error message:
"Enter date in format "12/25/1986". I have tried this format and every other date format I can think of, but all are refused and the error message returns. No information available in the Adobe forum. Please help.

Since posting the above I have learned that this problem is not a bug in the PS software. Very likely some glitch in the OS settings. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I found this at Microsoft, but what the hell it means is anybodies guess http://support.microsoft.com/kb/153338/en-us
If it is an OS problem try a Knwoledge base search.

Mike,
Thanks for your response. The cited article does not apply to Photoshop. Tried the knowledge base search but no hits. Thanks for trying.

B,
I saw your posts at the AF and if they can’t resolve it…..I think you are going to struggle searching MSKB for a PS specific problem. Is this problem something that has always been there or has it recentley appeared? If the latter, you have tried deleting your prefs file haven’t you? It’s amazing the issues and problems that this can cause when it gets out of whack.

Thanks again for your reply. AFAIK this behaviour has always been there. I have used the File Info dialog for a long time to enter metadata, but only recently began entering dates (or trying to), and that’s when the problem was first noted. Yes, the first thing I tried was deleting the preference file. And since the subject comes up, I noted something rather strange when trying to delete the file. The customary and suggested technique is to press Ctrll+Alt+Shift immediately after launching PS, I could not get this to work even after several tries, so I just located the file and deleted it. Gremlins in the computer?

Mike B,

The deletion technique is to hold down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift whilst launching PS, (it’s a timing thing apparently) not after launching. BTW, Nice website, some good restoration work. Was supposed to visit Austin, Tx at Christmas 2000, but you was suffering the worst winter for 70 years! Ended up with my brother in the "Big Easy" and those houses aren’t built for the cold.;-(

Again thanks for your reply. As for my problem, it remains in limbo. I guess I will just have to find a work-around. Before closing out this thread I want to say that I have seen your name on several replies in this forum. You are to be commended for taking the time to share your knowledge with those in need.

Cheers,
Mike B.
