I’m trying to fine-tune my settings in order to produce the best color, and would appreciate any input.

For Color Settings, I’ve seletected the U.S> Prepress defaults. Color Management Policies are set to "Preserve Embeded Profiles". FYI, I have the Nikon D100, which is set to Nikon’s version of Adobe RGB.

My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 925. Under "Print with Preview", the Print Space is set to Stylus Photo 925, and whatever particular paper I’m using (usually Epson’s glossy photo paper). Intent set to perceptual.

I’m finding that if I change the document’s source space from the imbedded profile – Nikon Adobe RGB (i.e. choose Convert Profile), to the Color Settings profile – Adobe RGB – I get better colors. Leaving the documents source space as is produces a slight green/blue cast.

Is it recommended (i.e. would it be a good idea) to change the Color Management Policies to "Convert to Working RGB"?

Thanx!

You’ve got the ideal situation. Your file is coming in tagged (which tells PS how to interpret the color) in a device color space that "matches" your camera. Very cool.

Usually (I’m making an assumption here because I’m unfamiliar with that camera) a device color space, though accurate, is not "grey balanced" nor does it have a uniform gamma. In other words, if you use it as a "working space", changes you make will not result in uniform and color balanced changes in other areas of the image. Rather, what you want to do is to convert it immediately upon bring it in to one of the regular "working spaces" which *are* "grey balanced" and do have a uniform gamma ~ in your case, to AdobeRGB98.

Think of your profile as a "capture space" and AdobeRGB98 as the master "working space", and finally your printer profile as the "destination space." Convert when opening, and then archive your master files as PSD’s in AdobeRGB98, and convert only when printing to the printer space. Simple stuff.

Good luck.
