PNG with transparency

I’m trying to make a 24 or 32 bit PNG with transparency.

Things are great when I create the artwork using 8 or 16 bit – but PhotoShop doesn’t offer a 24 bit, and when I convert to a 32 bit, the artwork flattens and transparency is impossible. It it possible to have a 24 or 32 bit PNG with transparency?

Have you renamed your background layer to allow editing? Are you using the "save for web" option? (some browsers don’t like 24 bit) Do you have Macromedia Fireworks installed? This has been known to affect the way PS handles PNG’s.
