Sorry folks, I have to rant. I have disliked adobe help for a long time, and today was a classic example of why:

I’m fairly new to Illustrator, so I’ve been hacking my way through it. I got the "Wow" book for CS2 and it’s pretty good, but I couldn’t find out what "Exit Isolated Group" meant. I was just curious, because I tend to accidentally double-click on objects; whenever I do, I get the grey box around it and have to right-click and say ‘Exit Isolated Group’. So, I started digging. I looked in the Illustrator CS2 User Guide, then the Illustrator 10 User Guide, then the The Illustrator CS Wow book, then finally to the ‘Adobe Help Center’, where I *knew* I wouldn’t find it. In the help center, I did a search on ‘exit isolated group’, ‘exit isolated group’, etc. and not one **** thing was in the search results. I know, I’m a novice and should probably get training, but it isn’t in our budget so…

Thanks for listening….

Dan

Heh.. maybe in character-based DOS applications, circa 1987.

F1 just brings up ‘Adobe Help Center’ – I’m right back where I started. Ack..

Huh.. So what’s Jesus got to do with this? You see, my gripe isn’t that I couldn’t find the answer – anyone with one finger and a connected pc could google it. My gripe is that it’s *nowhere* to be found in the illustrator documentation. And this happens a lot; I believe Adobe’s documentation is weak at best.

See, the real problem here is that you’ve never tried to use the help that comes with Borland’s programming tool Delphi. Once you’ve used that, anything else starts to look pretty good by comparison 🙂

When you buy a car they don’t teach you to drive.

However, my dealer does show me how to work all of the special features in the car. I don’t think expecting to find a good help feature with a software package is too much to ask for. But everybody is starting to skimp in this area.

Have you tried searching for "isolated group"?

Wow.. pretty prolific, productive response there Brownie. Now I know the answer to "What Can Brown Do For You?"
And to answer your question, no – I’m not that bright; if I remember correctly, I’m somewhere between "Idiot" and "Imbecile" on the IQ scale, which doesn’t negate the fact that you didn’t have the answer or didn’t know where to find it… Bye bye brownie 🙂

Ha! Well, if it’s anything like the help that came with Paradox back in the day, I definitely see your point!

You have just got to be kidding me. That’s all the better you can do? That’s all you could come up with? If you’re going to waste everyone’s time posting a completely useless answer, you could at least come up with something funny. Go ‘way. Shoo.
