I have an old Microtek Scanmaker3 , and using Photoshop CS I have been experiencing problems inputting scans, the scanner stops the scan and I get a fault screen in PS saying something like " cannot complete the scan due to a problem with the Acquisition module . I have tried deleting the temp files and re scanning and deleting the files that show in the Twain data folder with no help . I updated my ASPI layer to no avail . This happens at all DPI settings but more at the higher settings .

Windows 2000 SP3 , 1.5 gig of Ram Athlon xp2001 , Adaptec SCSI card.

Has someone had the problem and found a fix ?

Thanks for reading .

Check your hardware first.. Termination, cable etc.

I’ve encountered this problem in CS on XP with an old UMAX S6E SCSI scanner. Error message includes something about memory allocation error. This may be problem with the scanner’s TWAIN i/f, and it only seems to occur on larger scans or multiple — sometimes first scan works and second one fails. I use workaround of starting scan driver (MagicScan) in standalone mode, scan to tiff file then open the tiff in PS-CS. Since both the scan driver and Vuescan can operate the scanner and scan multiple large scans without errors I’m guessing that it’s not the HW. Maybe the TWAIN does not work with PS-CS on dynamic memory for passing scanned data file to CS.

Thanks for confirming my EXACT problem ! I have used Vuescan on occasions and I am now using the Microtek scan module to scan to a folder as a tiff . Mine is erratic on win2k sp3 and sp4 . Gotta love Windows !
