I was using a tool where the "hand" (H) now shows up (move) and have no idea what I selectd to put that tool into hand-mode.

I have used <ctrl>-right mouse click and <alt>-right vlick hoping to get a couple of tools – top get back to my original setting,

NOTE: The original setting let me shape things in my image with soft or had shaping. The tool looked like a brush but only did distortion of parts of the image. I coudl reshape noses, make a face skinnier, etc

Anyone know how to get back to that tool?

DJ,

The hand tool accessed via the toolbar (or press and hold the spacebar) does and always has provided a move function. The actions you describe sounds like you were working in Liquify mode (Filter>Liquify) or were you using the smudge tool? (7th icon flyout down on the left in toolbar, R on keyboard)
