We have CS-1 and have since upgraded to CS-2. Now we (me actually) are in the process of rebuilding the PC’s Operating system and applications and have a question. In the name of saving a bit of time, is it possible to install CS-2 directly or do I have to install CS-1 first?

Thanks,

~alan

When we updated from Photoshop 6 to CS 2 we first had to install Photoshop 6. I’m not sure, but I suppose it’s the same with CS.

I just went through this same situation reinstalling my OS and application software. For the verification part of the installation of CS2 Upgrade, I recall there were three choices. Please pardon my paraphrasing, the choices were previous version disc in CD player, Previous version installed on hard drive, input previous serial numbers.

Try installing CS2 first, it should just ask to see (insert) the CS disk as proof.

Just like Microsoft. I don’t really care what I have to do except spend the 30 minutes or so installing something I hope I don’t have to.

thanks,

Actually the biggest problem you will have will be activating your copy of CS2 if it has already been activated twice. You will have to call Adobe and beg permission to use the software for which you have already paid more than it is actually worth. Software activation as used by Microsoft and Adobe, among others, is a terrible scam that punishes savvy computer users who regularly upgrade hardware. It tries to chain you forever to hardware that becomes obsolete long before the software loses its usability. CS2 is a great product but it sells, particularly for a non-upgrade, at an irrational price point that encourages piracy, includes essentially no support and is nearly inflexible with regard to reinstallation issues. Consumers are really being abused by this process but we have absolutely no recourse as CS2 has no real competitors and the American government does nothing to protect consumers against the abuses of software vendors, EULA licenses and the like.
