Is there a way to create a drop shadow that stretches and shrinks with the content of the div it’s meant to enhance?

I’ve created a number of drop shadow background images but each one is good for one area of content (or several if they’re all exactly the same size) and if the size of the content changes the drop shadow image has to be resized. It seems like it should be possible to create a drop shadow image for the top, one for the left and right sides, and one for the bottom. In that way, at least the height of the content area could grow if the side images were put in place with a vertical repeat spec.

Does this make sense? If so, how is it done? Can anyone point me to an example of any technique that will get the job done?

The Photoshop part of what you propose is a piece of cake.

What you’re after is how to implement it within a page’s coding; It’s surely doable. And for that you’d be better off asking in the GoLive or Dreamweaver forum.
