First, reset the preferences, as explained in the FAQ. If that does not work, reinstall.
Hi Don
I have reset the prefs as the faq suggested and reinstalled photoshop contless times, but to no avail.
Is there anybody out there who can help me?
could the new nvidia drivers or directx mess Photoshop up?.
If it stopped working after installing those drivers, that is your clue.
"Unable to continue because of hardware or system error.
There lays another clue. And it is increasingly looking like you will have to investigate your hardware. Bad ram could be the promlem, and is the easiest to test. Try taking the sticks out one at a time (or in pairs) to see if the problem persists. As a heavy RAM user, Photoshop can show up memory defects when most other apps will keep on running.
Always buy high quality RAM for use in a Photoshop machine.
Best of luck.
Chris.
Randall,
Try deleting *EVERYTHING" in the Photoshop CS2 Settings folder
I;ve been having this same problem. None of these solutions worked. I have Photoshop 7.0 on windows XP. Brand new high end laptop – so this shouldnt be a hardware issue. Any other suggestions?
I am also having the same problem. The only change is that we have loaded some windows updates. Nothing works to fix this concern. Any new ideas from anyone?
I deleted the preferences file AND an actions palette file with the same date as the preferences file and it seemed to work. I used the FAQ on how to do and searched for a psp file once I changed my settings to see hidden files. Lets hope this is a permanent fix. Hope it works for others.
Usually this error means that something is wrong with the install, or sometimes with your OS. Once in a while it can be caused by corrupt preferences files (see the FAQ for how to reset prefs).
