I am using PShop 7 and I cannot figure out how to move multiple layers at once in the layers tab. I have about 45 layers I need to move underneath another 45 layers. Moving them one at a time is a pain and a time waster. Any ideas?

90 layers are a lot of layers! The ability to select multiple layers(needed before moving) only came in with CS2 (PS9)

Here’s a workaround:
(1) Show the Layer Options by clicking on the little arrowhead in the upper right of the Layers Palatte. Choose "New Layer Set". Layer sets act like folders to contain and organize individual layers (2) After giving your layer set a suitable name, drag the layers you want to move into the layer set. All this dragging and dropping is done on the Layers Palatte, not on the image itself. In other words, just drag the layer icons on the Layer Palatte and drop them into the new Layer Set. Yes, I guess you’ll have to do this 45 times, but it won’t take more than 30 seconds or so. When you have done this, I would close the layer set just to keep the Layers Palatte to a more manageable length– 45 layers, all visible, makes for one looooong palatte!
(3) Now just click on the Layer Set, and while holding down the Control (Mac: Command?) button, you’ll be able to move all 45 layers at once. You’ll find you can do this by dragging with mouse, or by using the arrow keys to nudge them– either way, they’ll move as a group.

Cheers!

Couldn’t you just link layers and then move them?

In fact I just tried it again and it worked. I knew it because I do this with typed text in Photoshop 7 all the time. In the layers panel just click on the little chain icon next to the eye for all the layers you want linked together and they should move all at once now.

Hi All.
Yes linking layers and then moving the group also works– it is great for one-time move operations. But since there is no way to save the linkage, if you want to move them a second time, you must go back and re-link them all– all 45 of them! If there is any reason to group those 45 layers together– perhaps you’ll be moving them again, or perhaps they form one complete panel on a multi-panel graphic, then putting them in their own layer set seems a logical way to go.

I guess it all depends on your workflow!

Yeah, guess that makes perfect sense, depends on your needs.
