I receive the following message when I trying to save my file – "could not save as ____ because the file is locked. Use the properties command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file."
How do I do this? The file is a shared file but is suppose to be able to be edited! Any help would be appreciated. I have to change the format of this file in order to send it to a client ASAP.
Thanks

If you’re changing the format, then you’re saving a new file, and the locked status of the original is immaterial.

Either way, Why not save to a local directory, like your desktop, and send that file.

It’s always better to work locally and avoid saving over a network

Thank you to Scott Falkner and Cybernetic Nomad for the quick replies. I used your advice Scott and saved the file to the desktop. It did allow me to do that and I was then able to change the format.
Just wondering however, how is it that the program keeps telling me that the file is locked when I know good and well that it is not!
Any idea how I go about using the properties command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file as the error message suggests?

CN-The reason I worked over the network was because I created the piece while on vacation, using my laptop. I then wanted to transfer and save the file on my desktop at home using the network but I never could because it kept telling me the blasted thing was locked! It wouldn’t even allow me to write it to a CD so I could transfer it that way! Go figure! But oddly enough when I tried to save it to the desktop it allowed me to do that! Everything was easy after that.

Rebecca,

how is it that the program keeps telling me that the file is locked<<

Because something has an open handle to the file. That could be Bridge or Windows Explorer (Versions prior to CS or if you still have V.7 or previous on the machine).
