I’m trying to save 170×40 pixel region of a PSD file as a *.png file. When I crop the PSD to 170×40 and use the File > Save As… function and choose *.png as the file type I get a 5 KB file. When I use a 170×40 slice and do the File > Save for Web… (PNG-24 with transparancy), I get a 4 KB file that’s getting rejected by our build tools. The 5KB file is not rejected.
In both scenarios I make sure that the file is not interlaced. From my limited knowledge of Photoshop, it seems like the files should be identical.
Does anyone know what’s different about the Save for Web function that would be doing this and any way that I can configure it to behave just like the Save as command?
