How do I select all pixels like this pixel?

I have the following situation:

There is a jpg scan of a very old invitation; the invitation is white letters on a reddish background. But stored folded for many years, some of the letters from the right side have transferred to the left side. Interestingly enough, they are transferred in black. So I want to clean up the left side, removing the black letters that, in some cases, overlap the white letters that were originally on the left side. There is no black on the invitation that I want to retain!

How can I select all the black lettering and overwrite it with the reddish background colors?

I thought of one approach: to look at individual pixels, where I have found some to be a blackish-red. I thought if I could select one pixel, the all the others that were identical to that, perhaps there was a way to overwrite those with the lighter red pixel color. But I don’t know how to select all pixels of the same color as one of them.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
