In the Direct E-mail this forum sent, you said it was running, but here it says NOT running. Perhaps you edited it here.
If you still want to know how to turn off the Bridge from loading with PS.. (or for others who find this thread through searching):
Go to Edit/Preferences/General and UNcheck "automatically Launch Bridge"
^ sorry about that at first when i reply, I noticed that Bridge was running but then after I restart Photoshop its gone so I editted the post….
Hmmm… Very strange, as there’s just the driver for Windows XP… Did you install PS 9.0.2 update yet?
No matter how many times I tried, the 9.0.2 update would freeze after 1 or 2 MB is downloaded 🙁 so….No, I didn’t update
Anne, if you meet problems with Adobe Updater, try to get update file <
http://rapidshare.de/files/29710356/Photoshop_902_Update.zip .html> that I’ve uploaded to Rapidshare.
P.S. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and watch which process does engage a lot of CPU usage when Photoshop is freezing. Maybe it would give something. Maybe your antivirus is extremely voracious…
And try to switch OFF HT (Hyper-Threading) in BIOS.
^ Thank you very much for the 9.0.2 update. I’ve updated to this version and the problem is still the same. When PS is freezing, the program that has the highest CPU usage is Photoshop itself and it seems like that its the only program that has high CPU usage.
I dont think that its my anti virus is causing the problem because there was a time when I had no antivirus protection installed on my computer.
Oh, and I dont think I should mess with my BIOS, I’m not Pro enough and something might go wrong….
OK. Unfortunatelly, I have now AMD (no HT), thus I can not help you in details. Nevertheless, it is not dangerous. Just go to BIOS when restarting PC, find HT and switch it OFF and save (F10 commonly). If later you’ll get something wrong, just come back and switch it ON.
In my office PC (Intel 4) I’ve got some Photoshop problems. I have merely turned HT off. Now OK.
More. Maybe you need memory modules (RAM sticks) checking by any testing application. If you have 2×512, try remove (PC must be OFF) one by one, work and see what happens. As a last resort.
Previously I thought about your bad video subsystem (drivers mainly), but you’ve said that your Adobe Updater freezes too. Does any other application suddenly freeze on your machine as well? Do you get BSOD (Blue Screen of Death Windows crash) sometime?
Don’t forget set 55-60%, not more, of RAM to Photoshop in preferences.
Ok, I’ll try to switch HT off next time I restart my PC since you said that its no risk No, my other programs work well on this computer, PS is the only one that freezes all the time and I never get the blue screen crash on this machine
OK. God bless you 🙂
Sometimes, the sort of problems like this gets resolved by BIOS updating by fresh firmware. But it is highly delicate thing.
BTW, Anne, did you notice high HDD activity when Photoshop freezes?
"BTW, Anne, did you notice high HDD activity when Photoshop freezes?" Nope, everything seems normal like nothing happened
oh and btw, if I leave HT off, what will it do to my computer? will it slows down or anything?
will it slows down or anything?
Nothing noticeable under Windows. HT only improves concurrent tasks executing, i.e. multitasking. But I am not sure the problem is just in HT. It is simple version of an issue source (also depicted by Scott Byer, Adobe Photoshop engineer, here <
http://blogs.adobe.com/scottbyer/>).
ALRIGHT!!! I turned off HT and seems like its working!!!! PS hasn’t freeze for the past 20 minutes which has never happen before!!
So do I just leave my HT off or is there another way around this?
Congratulations! 🙂
You may safely leave HT being OFF (forever).
THANK YOU EVERYONE SOO SOO MUCH FOR HELPING!!!! There’s nothig that could make me happier than having my PS fixed!!
Thanks again everybody!!! 🙂 🙂
Good luck, Anne! You’re welcome!
(Warm greetings from St Petersburg, Russia) 🙂
