My alpha channel contains a white circle in the middle which then fades (gradient) out to black around the edges(like a greyscale sun).
When I use this alpha channel as a selections is does not pick up all the gradient part of the channel.
I want to use the gradient part of the channel to make those pixels more or less transparent as it fades from black to white.
Hope this makes sense.
Cheers
Troy

Where your gradient is white you’ll have 100 % selected and where it’s black you’ll have 0 % selected. All in between is more or less selected but you can’t see the marching ants in a selection where there’s less than 50 % of the pixels selected. It’s there, but you just can’t see it.

I forgot to mention that you can turn on Quick Mask Mode (Q) when you have made a selection out of your alpha channel. Then you can see how it works.
