Hi, I’m a longtime user, and this has me stumped…

many tools like the clone, healing brush, regular brushes, dodge and burn, don’t function right now, after working oerfectly for more than a year, I suppose, since I intstalled it, while other tools DO work, like selection, pen tool, box tool, etc.

Doens anyone have a clue as to what might be happening?

Do I have to reinstall it? Do I have to also to reinstall the hundreds of filters again too?

Thanks for any assistance…

Paul

Paul,

Try deleting your prefs file. Hold down ctrl+alt+shift WHILST starting PS, it’s a timing thing.

Any more ideas? Anyone else?

Thanks, again…

Hi Mike, and I DO thank you for trying to help me out Here… THANKS!!!

Yes, Most commonly, I work in 8 bit RGB, on occasion, 16 bit, and only extremely rarely, CMYK.
Yes, I have an entry level tablet, oHHH!! I just tried to use the tablet, after rebotting PSCS2, and all functions worked by the tablet, (which I wasn’t using before, just my trackball, for all other attempts…) and then I used my trackball, and everything also worked…

So, everything is working now, and the reasons are rather inexplicable, for wither working or not working… Hmmmm….

But, Thanks for your assistances… unless you have other wisdom on this,

Most sincerely filled with gratitude,
Paul Kiler

Paul,

Glad you resolved it, I have heard of problems/conflicts with "digitisers" either being too close to wireless mice, leaving the stylus on the pressure surface, driver or battery problems. Also the problem you described can also be recreated by trying to work in 32 bit mode.
Thanks for the update.

In my experience after working for a while on multiple large files PS sometimes loses focus like this and tools will not work. I presume this is a memory/resources problem.
It corrects either by closing and reopening PS but sometimes requires a complete reboot of the computer. I have experienced this on PS7 through CS2, a variety of computers and regardless of ram, background program load, etc.

Yes, I have experienced the same, and I just close and reopen, but this problem was repeated after multiple (5-7) complete system reboots… Until it fixed itself, or the tablet mysterious option fixed itself.

Thanks guys…
Paul

What’s the largest amount of RAM you’ve used and still experienced this? I have 1 GB, thinking of upgrading to 2 GB.

I have two gigs in, *BUT* I don’t think that one of them works, as they are mismatched, 2- 512 mb’s and a 1 Gig.

If you work with files over the 250 mb size, you definitely need more than 1 gig. It depends which photoshop version you are using, as Photoshop only recognizes a maximum of RAM. I’m fairly certain that CS recognizes only 2 gigs, while CS2 does 4 – (if I’m not mistaken…) That may have changed with the 9.0.1 upgrade for CS2…?

I really need to get the 2 gigs matched up, as it causes me some problems…

Cheers-

Paul,

If you memory is only mismatched in size, it depends how many memory controllers you have, some boards only have one, others two (939s on the CPUdie). If your Motherboard supports dual channel memory you will be seeing a performance loss with your current setup as you will be running in single channel mode if your board only has one controller.
If you ram is mismatched speed, it will be running at the speed of the slowest.
