I this where i can ask how to make some lightening? hopefully it is…

i’m making a logo…and want to add lightning/electricity to it to make it look electrified. I can make lightening using the render clouds and the levels changing method…but the problem with this is it uses a black background…and i need perfect lightening on a transparent background so i can place it into my logo…

any ideas?

You can try putting a darker color around just the lightning (almost like a stroke). The tricky part is getting it to look good, but then again that’s the tricky part of any artistic endeavor 😉

How about you invert the image with the black background? It would look weird, but I think a lightning bolt against a light background isn’t going to look great anyway.

ok…i did try to invert the colors..but still didn’t show on a white background for some reason…it’s all good though…i’ll just do a gray background for the website and minus the electricty arcs for printed stuff on white…

If you can create your lightening bolts on a black background, why not copy that layer into an alpha channel, load it as a selection, and then paste your favorite color into it? You could also play around with copying different colors into different layers, and then adjusting the opacity and/or blending mode. Perhaps even embossing the bolt to give it a little light scatter or fog. Or perhaps once you’ve created your alpha channel, duplicate it and apply a gaussian blur to one of the channels; use the sharp channel to apply a brilliant blue-white core to the bolt, but underneath it use the blurred channel to apply an electric blue halo.

Lots of room to play around in.

Cheers!
