2 persons with Photoshop CS can’t start it anymore.
When they start Photoshop it hangs in the start cycle (loading color-pallet or sometimes even earlier).

It looks like this problem came after a Windows Update (I don’t know which one). I tried to delete the user setting in "Documents and Settings" and reinstalled Photoshop but nothing helps!

Is there anyone with the same problem or maybe someone who solved this problem?

First, reset your preferences. The procedure is in the faq. If that doesn’t solve the problem come back and we’ll work through it. It could be a corrupted color profile, and a reinstall may fix that, but start with the prefs.

I have not seen this problem. What are the computer configurations? Maybe there’s a key component common between them (i.e. an out of date video driver or something).

Try going into Contrtol Panel | Add Remove Programs and removing the most current updates. They have an "Installed On" date listed.

Hey Greg.

Thanks for the link. That Brian’s got what looks like some nice stuff on there which I’ll work my way through as time permits.

He’s a treasure (pun intended!) 😉

I deleted the User preferences and reinstalled PS CS allready. But it doesn’t help. Sometimes Photoshop will start (mostly after a fresh reboot).

The computer is a recent Dell laptop. But the other computer who also had this problem is a normal desktop PC.

You could have a bad font or plug in. Try removing all the fonts bar Times and Ariel to a temporary folder on your desktop.

If this clears the problem move them back a chunk at a time to narrow it down to the cluprit.

Otherwise try the same with the plug ins. Except you can temporarily disable a plug-in by adding a tilde (~) to the front of the file name.

Steady on!

Windows needs more than Times and Arial to work properly.

You can see what the standard Windows fonts are here:

Thanks for the clarification John.

It will work with fewer but, as you rightly stated, not properly.

Rene,

Next time you start Photoshop carefully watch what is being loaded. The last thing before it dies (Fonts, Color Profiles, whatever) is most likely what is corrupted and causing the problem.

Hello,

Suddenly my version of Photoshop CS doesn´t work. but Image Ready does. I haven´t installed anything recently what I remeber.

I goes the whole starting process but stops in the end saying " reading global textrescources….finished" ( i don´t know the english words since I have Swedish version ) and then it freezes.

I tried rebooting and reinstalling Photoshop but the problem remains.

Mattias,

Delete your preference file as per the Forum FAQs – that file is not replaced with an uninstall/re-install

Hi,
have just found these postings, and are kind of relevant but I’m still stuck! Just got Photoshop CS, tried to install it on my Dell desktop (Intel Celeron D processor 325 2.53GHz, 1.00 Gb RAM; 53GB of 80 free; Windows XP), it appears to install so I open it and it loads fonts, etc, etc on that acknowledgements screen, then that screen disappears and it’s "ready to go", all the palettes and tools and layers boxes are there… then I click on the menu bar or try to do anything and all the tool boxes go white and it’s non-responsive, and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del it to end task. Computer is fine thereafter and pointer doesn’t freeze at any point. Have uninstalled and reinstalled – lots! I have tried installing with everything turned off: no virus checker, no firewall, everything MSConfig-ed to be off; installing from desktop no help, making sure to delete preference file each time no help. So tried installing it on my shitty old laptop (Packard Bell iGo; Windows XP) – it goes on fine! Works a treat. The laptop is old and slow but has been reformatted and wiped of everything bar Word and a few other things. The Dell desktop has various applications on, but is only two months old and certainly isn’t choked up with odd programs. Basically just has what it came with. Has Corel Photo Album and Photo Shop pre-installed, but not really used them. The ImageReady that came with CS works fine on the Dell desktop.
WHAT CAN I DO?! I need to hand my PhD thesis in in a month – I need Photoshop! :'(
Any help… anyone? I would be grateful like you could not even believe!
Cheers, Sally 🙂
