I attended one of the Creativity Without Limits seminars a couple weeks ago, and the presenter demonstrated something I hadn’t seen before and now cannot find (can’t find it in the user guide, either). I thought it was called file manager, but I can’t remember how to get there via the menus. It’s a way to see all the images in one folder as thumbnails and open the file from there. I think photographers use it frequently. Can anyone help me?

This is the File Browser.
It was new in PS 7. If you have an earlier version, you’ll have to upgrade [then applu th e7.0.1 update].
It’s a good feature.

And, if you’ve not already found it Amanda, you will find that File Browser can be activated from the Window menu. The file browser is then another one of the tabbed palettes similar to those for Layers, History, etc., and may be left in a floating position or docked into the palette well.

If File Browser is docked into the palette well and is too small for your liking when you expand it out, you will see a window handle at the bottom right that allows you to stretch the window down and to the right. However, that does little to help in making the File Browser wider. So, a tip…To make the File Browser wider, first undock it to a floating position. Then move it left and use the window handle to stretch it wider to the right. Finally, redock the browser and you’ll find that when expanded from the palette well the File Browser will now be the larger size you set up.
