JPEG or EPS image to Vector – how to.

Hello gang,

I need to convert a company logo from JPEG or EPS to Vector. How can one do this? It’s so nice I was given of advance notice of "need it today", LOL.

The EPS version is likely to be vector already. Try opening it in Illustrator.

Hello Robert,

Thanks for your fast reply. I can open both the JPEG and EPS images in Illustrator and they’re both re-sizable. How can I tell if they’re "vector"? Yes, a green question. Is it not the re-sizability that makes it a vector (if I understand correctly)?

No. Vectors are resizable wihtout loss of quality, Raster images can be resized, but a loss of quality will be seen.

To see if the image is vector, view it in Artwork mode while in Illustrator.

I clicked on "Live Trace" then "Live Paint" and I believe I’m now seeing it in paths (lines and squares all over the place). The logo is text, thank goodness, and it went black after doing the above but I was able to fiddle with it to make back to the pantone blue the logo requires. So, I have the feeling we have acheived vector. Can I send this .ai file to the printer or must I save it in other format? VERY sorry this turned into an Illustrator thing on the PS board–didn’t think that would happen.

"Speak to the printer" is the best advice, but generally PDF press quality is a better format to send out work in.
