i’ve got a main computer with an internal HD dedicated only to images (500GB).

i’ve got another PC networked to be able to edit images from the 500GB internal drive of the first machine.

both machines have CS2 suite installed.

if i’m using bridge’s "distributed cache" option, why when i cache the a directory of images from the 2nd machine to the 1st machine, the cache needs to be re-created when i open bridge in the first machine?

what i’m looking to do is use BOTH machines to maximize my time of caching thumbnails with the 2nd machine, while the main machine is still importing the images.

have i made ANY sense?

Yep. And for the record, Bridge has some "challenges" in regards to its use of the Cache. I suspect that’ll change with the next release of Photoshop.

That said, Bob’s right, best answered in the Bridge forum.

If you use the distributed cache, then there will be two hidden files in each directory that has been cached that will contain the cache info. Whenever this directory is accessed by Bridge, whether from the machine creating the cache or another, those cache files will be used when opening or viewing files — if a file is in the cache. If a file is not in the cache, then it will be cached by Bridge in accordance with that copy of Bridge’s preferences. In other words, it may be cached to the existing distributed cache files if Bridge is set to use a distributed cache or to the viewing machine’s centralized cache otherwise.
