Hey there,

I am new to this lounge AND to Photoshop CS2!!!

I currently do post production work for an photographic achitectual company.

This mainly entails adding in a different background, adjusting colour, enhancing brightness, sharpening the image and sometimes cloning out objects.

I am wanting to upgrade to the CS2 but we are currently using Elements.

1) Does CS2 have a function like FILL FLASH? I cannot find it in CS2. What this does in elements is add light to those dark ares in the photograph.
(we use brightness too but that creates a blanketing effect rather than ONLY enhancing those dark areas).

2) i use the MAGIC WAND and SELECT SIMILAR tool to replace the background. It is a pain in the *@# to select areas around/in trees; the SELECT SIMILAR tool also picks up unecessary areas on the building. Is there a way to limit the areas of selection without using the DESELECT button? this is a very lengthy process!

3) is there a way to set up the work station so that all opened images come up as a slideshow? As in, you can easily see the amendments being made to them whilst using an ACTION and does not take up too much space?

We are a fairly new company and i am fairly new to the program so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know i have bombarded everyone with questions. It would be great if someone felt interested enough to offer more assistance to be either by post or email/msn

1: Yes, Shadow/Highlight adjustment

2: Yes. With any of the selection tools, Shift will add to the selection and Alt will subtract. You also have the very useful "Extract" plug-in in CS2

3: Not too sure what you mean here. Bridge (CS2’s browser) comes with a slideshow utility.

You have to get out of the Elements mindset.

It provides a good background to basic image editing principles but CS2 does all that PS Elements does but with much more user control.

As Chris and others have said, get to know the different selection tools by practising with them. Each tool has its strengths and weaknesses and it is dependent upon the image as to which is the best.

Type "Selection Tools" in the search box in Photoshop CS2 Help and learn and practise, practise, practise!
