When we see webpages some colors amaze us and we want to use those colours in our web pages.

But the problem is to get the exact value of thet color. (RGB value). Can I use PhotoshopCS2 (or Imageready) to pich up the exact color from a webpage? If so how?

Please accept my thanks in advance.

Right-click the web page and choose "View Source". If the colour has been used as the background to a page or table it will be coded something like this: bgcolor="#F8F8F8" (in this instance it is a light grey.

In Photoshop, open the Colour Picker dialogue. At the bottom, just right of centre, you will see a box with a hash (#) in front of it. Enter the number (F8F8F8 in my example) into the box to select that colour.

You could, of course, just play around with the Colour Picker. There is an infinite number of "amazing colours" available in there for the choosing. 🙂

You will also be able to accurately select the web colour from a printscreen of the page pasted into Photoshop.

Do a search for "Color Mania", you’ll love it. AAvK

Not a Photoshop reply per se, but:

To quickly find the values of individual colors on screen, you could try a simple little freeware utility such as Pixie:
http://www.nattyware.com/pixie.html

For creating color schemes for webpages I use color scheme utilities such as:

– Color Impact (my personal favourite) http://www.tigercolor.com/ – Color Schemer http://www.colorschemer.com/

Another method: With Photoshop and the web page both visible drag the Eyedropper from an open document onto the web page and it will pick up the color. You can do this with anything that will display on your screen.

There’s also a Firefox extension out there somewhere that creates a Photoshop palette file from the colours of a Web site…

Phew! So that’s five different ways of doing the same thing! Don will be spoilt for choice.

Ed’s suggestion is by far the easiest. I didn’t know you could do that Ed. I’d tried in the past and failed.

Just to clarify the technique for Don: Have the web page open and also a PS document. Select the eyedropper tool and with the left mouse button held down, drag across to sample the colour you want from the web page.

Much better than all the number-crunching I suggested 😉 Chris.

I am pretty sure it gives you the exact color. At least when I try it it matches what’s in the code.

There’s also the ColorZilla plugin for Firefox, which allows you to measure the color of anything in the browser window, including pictures or graphics.
