Hi Gang …

Will the CS2 updates (9.01 and 9.02) work with the trial version of cS2?

Thanks!

Probably. Can’t hurt to try.

I don’t believe the trial version can be updated, SCB

Is that right Len? I thought I’d read somewhere that the trial was in every way the same as the full version – other than it died after 30 days?

I might be mistaken of course.

Shel. Give it a try and post the results here.

Chris,

I’d read somewhere that the trial was in every way the same as the
full version<<

Functionally it is, but I strongly suspect that if the .exe changed in any way (as it would from an update patch), the trial would time-out immediately. If that is so, it would make good sense to make the trila version immune to attempts to update it.

The trail times out after 30 days so why build in additional time outs since Adobe presumably keeps the trail version current?

Sure it can. If the updates "time out" the trial version as Len suggested, then I don’t get a chance to fully try the software, and, since I’m on a slow connection, a lot of download time would have been wasted.

Good Point. We could do with someone to chip in with a definitive answer here. Len and I are both guessing.

Shel,

That won’t happen. I’m sure you would find that the Trial version just wouldn’t be updated. In fact, on running the update I would expect you to see a message saying effectively "Photoshop CS2 not found".

I retract my first message. Even though Len is confident that the program won’t be found, I am less certain, and you might well time out the trial.

My new suggestion is to load the tryout and explore all the functions for the first 28 days or so. Then try loading the upgrades (I assume you want to check the program out with them, although they have minimal functionality).

That way, if it does cause the trial to timeout (and the timeouts are very sensitive) you only lose a day or two.

That was going to be the plan. Thanks!

Well, when you finally do, come back and let us know so that we will be able to give a definitive answer to the next person who might ask.

Shel: This from the Camera Raw forum:

I have downloaded CS2 and am preparing to purchase. But it seems there is no Camera Raw function. Does this come with the try out version? It doesnt appear on this one?

Camera Raw is included with the CS2 download, and installed along with it. However, the included version of ACR is 3, which may explain why you think it’s not working. The most recent version (3.4) can be download from the Camera Raw download page.

You should also update to the latest version of Adobe Bridge for Windows or for Mac

Please ensure that you read and follow the install instructions for ACR and Bridge, otherwise you may experience some problems.

No quite straight from the horses mouth – but from a very knowledgable stable boy 🙂

If I read this correctly, it means you can update the trial versions of PS, Bridge and ACR

Ian says nothing about updating CS2 – just Bridge and ACR, neither of which directly affect PS CS2

And Ian answers a lot of posts. Could be he missed the word "trial."
